Buddhism

Posted on Sep 13th, 2007 by lomc18
I have recently become very intrigued by Buddhism. I was wondering if anyone was involved in this practice and could tell me more about it...you know, why they chose to practice and what it involves and how they feel about it. There are no temples around my apartment, just this organization called...I think SGI USA or maybe it's SIG USA. I'll appreciate any feedback. Much love.

What teacher had the most impact on you?

Posted on Sep 14th, 2007 by lomc18
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for September 14, 2007:

Definitely my Freshmen Comp. I English Professor. Professor Walter Corbella. He wasn't afraid to stray away from the university's curriculum to really get into our heads. He talked about things like religion and quantum physics, thinks that really get you thinking. He taught me to stop accepting what the media was feed us and think for ourselves. He showed us the documentary "What the Bleep Do We Know" and I still watch this on my own from time to time to get myself thinking again. He also showed us the movie "The Island" to prove his point about how the media is so controlling. He also opened my eyes to the fact that the internet and other types of personal media are destroying social interactions, which I believe is a major cause of the youth of today's lack of coping and social skills. Thank you professor Walter Corbella!

What part of your day goes by the most slowly?

Posted on Sep 16th, 2007 by lomc18
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for September 16, 2007:

When I am alone. On some days when I'm at work and have nothing to do, but that's not too often. I like to keep busy. I don't like being by myself not because of insecurities or anything like that, I'd just rather spend my time surround by my friends.

When were you most touched by a ceremony?

Posted on Sep 17th, 2007 by lomc18
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for September 17, 2007:

The little boy I used to baby-sit when I was younger lost the battle to brain cancer. Following his death the family had a memorial service, it was the most wonderful ceremony I have ever attended. It was so special because it was a celebration of his life, rather than a rememberance of him after his death. They played his favorite music and showed pictures and videos of him at his happiest moments. I still remember the song they played during the slideshow "beautiful boy"- John Lennon. That song gives me chills to this day. I hope that when I pass there is a celebration as honorable as his.

What's the most difficult thing you've forgiven?

Posted on Sep 19th, 2007 by lomc18
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for September 18, 2007:

I won't go into detail because simply thinking of it makes me angry and sick. But forgiving my mother for stealing my Junior year of high school away from me. That's a time that I would do anything to relive. I try not to live with regrets, but that is definitely my biggest. The situation she put me through that year of my life forever changed me. I still have an immense amount of hatred toward her ex-boyfriend which I am still trying to rid of and heal myself from. I will never change myself and let someone control me like my mother did. She was the ONE person I thought was strong enough that it could never happen to and right before my eyes I watched him control her to the point that she felt too weak to even escape the abuse from that psycho bastard. I wish it were all erased. But the good news is, I love my mom the same as I ever did. She is my mother, friend and ultimately my backbone, I couldn't live without her & dread the day I will have to... : (

Who in your life are you most open with?

Posted on Sep 20th, 2007 by lomc18
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for September 20, 2007:

There is really no one that I can think of. When it comes to personal things I keep to myself for the most part. The people who probably "think" they know me best are my best friend and boyfriend, but there's a lot they don't know.

Would you prefer to go to heaven, or be reincarnated?

Heaven, no doubt. In my mind I've always viewed Heaven as my utopia. I will be everything I've ever desired to be when I make it to Heaven.

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for September 27, 2007:

I definitely do, but it is one of life's toughest challenges to learn how to make your own happiness. I have deep respect for those who can.

Are you more proud of your accomplishments or your character?

Posted on Sep 27th, 2007 by lomc18
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for September 24, 2007:

I am extremely proud of my accomplishments at this point in my life. I've done more in my 19 years than I think some people have done in an entire lifetime and I am very grateful to have been able to live my life without many restrictions. My character is something I am currently working hard on and am proud to say that I am making the effort to constantly improve myself. With a newly found faith there is a lot of evolution happening! I also am really making the effort to live a life of passion by serving the less fortunate whether it may be in sickness or poverty or any other type of disadvantage they may have.
